GRTU files judicial protest for closure of shops on MEP Election Day
Posted on May 21st, 2009
The GRTU has on Thursday filed a judicial protest against the Chief Electoral Commissioner calling on him not to order the closure of shops within 50 metres of polling stations on June 6, 2009, the polling day for the European Parliament and local elections in some localities. The union also asked for compensation for the shops.
It described the provisions of the electoral law as archaic.
The GRTU insists that these shops would not be involved themselves in propaganda, intimidate voters or breach in any way public order.
