Seminar on the Eradication of Poverty
SKOP - The National Platform of Maltese NGDOs, in collaboration with KOPIN, STOPoverty! Neqirdu l-Faqar! Campaign and Global Action Schools is once again organising a one day seminar on the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). The aim of this seminar is to discuss the MDGs, raise awareness about poverty and global issues and enhance networking capacities between organisations involved in Development work. All interested are invited to attend.
SKOP would also like to invite the general public to participate in this year’s Stand Up Activity as a sign of urgency to eliminate the violations of human rights and extreme poverty around the World. The public is invited to stand up collectively for one minute and to send a text message (SMS) with the number of people standing up and name of the organisation or workplace to 79842015 or by email to standupmalta@gmail.com. Schools are kindly asked to send details to schoolsstandup@gmail.com. Photos can be emailed as well.
Last year, 15,948 persons stood up in Malta and Gozo, adding up to the global figure of 43.7 million people world wide.
“Standing up may seem a simple gesture with little impact. However, it is a meaningful action; a sign of hope, an expression from the world’s citizens who believe in a society where true justice and true peace are possible” said Mario Gerada from SKOP.
The seminar on the Millennium Development Goals will be held on 17 October at the Mediterranean Conference Centre between 9:00h – 16:00h. Entrance is free of charge, registration at the door.
Several member organisations of SKOP will be showcasing their work in an exhibition sponsored by Inizjamed within the frame of its Global Citizenship Education project Conectando Mundos, which is co-financed by the European Union and the National Lottery Good Causes Fund.
