A man and his wife have been hospitalised after the roof of their residence collapsed, the police said in a statement. The woman suffered serious injuries but her condition is not critical.
The incident happened in Isouard Street St Paul’s Bay, at around 1045CET on Sunday while the man was doing some maintenance work on the roof. When the roof collapsed the woman was buried under the rubble whilst the man fell down a height of a storey.
Members of the Civil Protection Department assisted in the rescue operations and the couple was rushed to hospital in ambulance. At Mater Dei Hospital, it was certified that the woman, 52, had suffered serious injuries which are not life threatening. Her husband, 51, escaped with light injuries.
Further investigations are underway.
