13 people arrested in relation to drugs
The anti-drug squad has been investigating 13 people in connection to finds of illicit drugs, the police said in a statement.
The drugs were found in four separate actions, the first being a raid in a bar in Birkirkara following a tip off that drugs were being trafficked from the shop. The barman was found to be in possession of over 10 grammes of cocaine. In relation to the same case a 39-year-old woman from Zejtunwas also arrested.
The barman was arraigned in court on Monday and pleaded guilty. The man is a 33 year-old from Floriana and he was refused bail.
Another mission was conducted on Sunday on the granaries in Floriana where 9 men, aged between 19-27, were arrested during a party. The men hail from Tarxien, Mtarfa, Floriana, Marsaxlokk, Zabbar and Qawra. These were found in possession of cannabis, cocaine and ecstasy. Two of them are expected to be arraigned in connection to trafficking cocaine and ecstasy.
The third mission took place at the Malta International Airport on October 1st, where a 32 year-old man of Libyan nationality was arrested when over 3 kilogrammes of heroin was found in his possession. The man is a resident of Attard.
In another operation, the anti-drug squad together with customs officers arrested a Gambian, 35, who was found to be carrying some 250 grammes of cocaine in his stomach.
The man was arraigned on Friday and has been denied bail.
Further investigations for all the cases are underway.
