The government has reported that a National Ebola Simulation Exercise was held on Friday morning as a continuation of a number of exercise drills which have been ongoing over the past months. The aim of this simulation exercise was to test procedures which have been outlined as a response to the possibility of a case of Ebola viral disease.

The national exercise with respect to Ebola preparedness involved the assessment and transfer of an imaginary suspect case of Ebola from a private residence. The first part of the exercise involved sixteen highly trained health care providers from the Emergency Department, Public Health and Infection Control Unit who responded to the call.

The second part of the exercise focused on the full decontamination of the emergency responders. To this end, a joint operation between the Health and the Civil Protection responders was setup.

A post-drill assessment of the strengths and weaknesses identified during this exercise will be carried out in the coming days to enable all stakeholders to continue improving their level of preparedness.

Training and drills will remain ongoing to test various scenarios to ensure that the Maltese islands are as ready as can be for any eventuality.
