Provisional seasonally adjusted data published by the National Statistics Office (NSO) show that industrial production increased by 7.1 per cent, to 109.2 points, in August over the previous month. When compared to the corresponding month last year, the index of industrial production adjusted for working days went up by 1.2 per cent.

NSO said that all main industrial groupings registered an increase over the previous month. Intermediate and consumer goods, comprising around 78 per cent of the total value added, went up by 11.6 and 9.3 per cent respectively.

When compared to the corresponding month last year, the index of industrial production increased by 1.2 per cent. This was mainly due to increases of 15.7 and 3.5 per cent in the production of capital goods and consumer goods respectively. On the other hand, the production of intermediate goods and energy went down by 4.7 and 4.1 per cent respectively.
