A group of Maltese artists have made Paris their home and have built a career – they established themselves and built a reputation. They have never, however, abandoned their roots … on the contrary they remain very much attached to Malta from which they also draw inspiration.

Last June, the European Contemporary Orchestra played the work of the young Maltese composer Karl Fiorini. The work entitled Cadavre Exquis was played at Ballet National de Marseille. This September saw important attention to Malta and the Maltese in mainstream French media.

Mr. Stephen Cassar, an established Maltese pianist living in Lyon, and Mr. Joseph Cutajar a writer who published a Maltese French dictionary, were interviewed on the 25 of September 2012 by France 2 during the leading breakfast show in France Télé Matin. This interview was coordinated by the Honorary Consulate of Malta in Lyon, Dr. Pascal Couturier.

Another important event was a concert given by the renowned international Maltese jazz player and composer, Mr. Sandro Zerafa. The concert was held on Saturday the 29 of September at Radio France which is certainly one of the best venues for classical music jazz in the world. The concert included a remarkable piece by Sandro Zerafa entitled Fomm ir-Riħ. The Ambassador of Malta, Pierre Clive Agius attended the packed concert hall. Those wishing to listen to the concert will be able to do so by tuning on the 27 of October at 22.00 hrs on France Music via the internet link http://sites.radiofrance.fr

On the 25 of October, the Maltese Rhapsody by the Maltese Composer Joseph Vella will be played at the famous Salle Cartot in Paris. The work will be executed by the French pianist Pascal Martin. More information on this concert can be found at www.ecolenormalecortot.com
