Filipino sailor evacuated to hospital
The Armed Forces of Malta has reported that a Filipino sailor was medically evacuated to hospital on Monday afternoon, after suffering an injury onboard the merchant vessel MV Cassiopeia.
The Armed Forces of Malta’s Rescue Coordination Centre (RCC Malta) at Luqa Barracks received a call for the sailor’s evacuation from the vessel, after he was reported to have broken his leg and required medical assistance.
With bad prevailing weather of the Maltese Islands yesterday, an aerial medical evacuation was not possible. The vessel was so instructed by RCC Malta to approach closer to Marsaxlokk harbour.
An AFM Maritime Squadron rescue-launch of the Melita-class was then sent out to bring back the injured sailor, who was safely landed and transferred by ambulance for treatment to Mater Dei Hospital.
