Carmine Lauri, internationally acclaimed Maltese violin virtuoso and co-leader of the London Symphony Orchestra, will be performing at the Manoel Theatre together with the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra on Friday 13th January at 19:30 hrs, under the baton of British conductor Peter Stark.

At the age of 17, Carmine Lauri moved to London to the Royal Accademy to further his studies with Jean Harvey, Maurice Hasson and other distinguished artists including Anne Sophie Mutter & Ida Haendel. He has led various orchestras including the Academy of St Martin in the fields, the Orchestra of the Royal Opera House Covent Garden, the LPO, the LSO, the Orquesta municipal of Venezuela and the Hong Kong Philharmonic orchestra under Lorin Maazel, Bernard Haitink, Sir Colin Davis, Antonio Pappano, Yan Pascal Tortellier, Riccardo Chailly, Pierre Boulez and Valery Gergiev. Carmine has also recorded with the LSO music scores of several movies, including Star Wars and Harry Potter and is often the featured violin soloist in many films such as ‘As you like it’ and ‘Joyeux Noel’.

Carmine will be performing Wieniawski’s Violin Concerto no 1 in F sharp minor. Peter Stark returns with the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra, well remembered by the Maltese audiences for his exhilarating, imaginative and inspiring conducting. For this evening his choice falls upon two magnificent orchestral works: Martinu’s Overture H.345 and Dvorak’s
Symphony no 8.
