Man who fled Malta during criminal proceedings arrested
On Wednesday a 34-year-old man from Sliema, who fled Malta in 2010 while undergoing criminal proceedings for drug trafficking, was brought back by the police after he was caught in Holland.
The police confirmed that the suspect was arrested in The Netherlands after he was found in possession of a false foreign identity document. Coordination between the drug squad within the Malta Police Force, the International Relations Division of the Malta Police, Europol and the Attorney General’s office led to his arrest and subsequently his return to Malta.
The 34-year-old was being accused of association to deal in drugs and possession of six kilograms of cannabis resin not for his personal use on October 12, 2008. Furthermore the man was out on bail at the time.
He was taken to Corradino prison on a court order.
