Lascaris War Rooms open on Notte Bianca
On the occasion of Notte Bianca on Saturday 1st October 2011, The Lascaris War Rooms will be open for free for the first time. Lascaris war rooms were the Operational Headquarters which were built in order to provide a secure place from where war operations could be conducted. The war rooms are located under the Bastion of St Peter and St Paul and formed part of the defence system of Valletta. They were built by the Knights of St John in 1566.
The audio visual shows The Malta Experience and The Great Siege of Malta will open for free during Notte Bianca. The Malta Experience will present 4 shows on a complimentary basis at 20.00hrs; 21.00hrs; 22.00hrs and 23.00hrs. Visitors will be accepted on a first-come basis. The Malta Experience is an internationally acclaimed audio-visual heritage attraction presenting a riveting sequence of Malta’s 7000 year history. Sensational scenery projected onto a 10mt panoramic screen, gripping commentary and an evocative soundtrack combine to offer this stimulating experience. It brings forth the sea as the island’s natural resource and the source that has shaped our history.
The Great Siege of Malta “Nothing is better known than the Siege of Malta” Voltaire. The Great Siege is an audio guided walk-through show, which tells the story of the Siege of Malta in 1565. On the 18th May 1565, the Ottoman fleet attacked Malta. The Knights of St John and the Maltese, who were in the minority, won the siege, one of the bloodiest and most fiercely contested battles in history.
