Air Malta pilots strike called off
The strike announced by pilots at Air Malta earlier this week was called off on Wednesday following talks between the Prime Minister, the pilots’ union (ALPA) and Air Malta.
A joint statement issued on Wednesday said that “all strike actions by the pilots have been withdrawn.”
The statement confirmed that during the meeting, the two parties agreed to work closely together in securing a better deal with the Malta International Airport, improving the performance of Air Malta, seek new opportunities on cargo, and face all challenges that will turn around the profitability of the company.
ALPA said that while they recognise the need to reduce the number of pilots, management will engage in active discussions with the association to maximise utilisation of the crew compliment.
Representing the Government there was the Minister for Finance, the Economy and Investment Tonio Fenech, Airmalta was represented by the Chairman Louis Farrugia and CEO Peter Davies . ALPA was represented by the President of the Union Capt. Dominic Azzopardi, Capt. Charmaine St John and First Officer Ryan Xuereb.
In the light of this agreement the Air Malta has also agreed to withdraw all legal action against the Union.
