The man who died on Monday following a boating collision between a a yacht and a small boat, had drowned, the autopsy revealed.

In an statement issued by the police it was revealed that the autopsy report confirmed that the man died due to “asphyxia due to drowning”.

The accident occured just a quater of mile off Tigne Point in Sliema when a locally registered yatch collided with a small boat (frejtgatina)on which the 81 year old man was boarding.

The elderly boatman had been thrown overboard on impact.

As soon as he was recovered from the sea by the Armed Forces of Malta he was immediately taken to Mater Dei hospital on board of an ambulance awaiting him at the AFM Haywharf Base in Floriana. He died as soon as he arrived in hospital.
