Alex Bezzina a Maltese trumpeter, arranger and composer has directed a concert at the St James’s Church Piccadilly London.

The concert was organised by the Malta High Commission in London. Alex Bezzina is making a name for himself and Malta in the UK music scene. He started off his career from the commercial band: ‘Big Band Brothers’ and was co-founder together with Kevin Abela of the Pure Brass Quintet. His compositions were featured in various events, the composition ‘Its Time’ premiered by the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra at Rockestra 2009.

He has now moved to the UK and graduated from the London Centre of Contemporary Music and became part of the academic staff at the same centre. His music accomplishments in the UK are extensive and have become the lead trumpet player of the Big Swing Band and played at the renowned Glastonbury festival.

He is also working with Sir Joe Quarterman on a European tour following the release of a new single in a week’s time. This concert at the St James’s Church reflected a musical transition from the classical to the jazz and funk genres. As the artistic director Bezzina invited the Pure Brass Quintet from Malta and Blam Jazz Quartet from the UK to come together and collaborate musically for the first time ever.

For this concert, The Pure Brass Quintet played a number of musical arrangements from their repertoire and Blam performed some of their original compositions. Playing with both bands, Alex’s musical excellence culminated in the premiere of his own compositional piece ‘Il-Maltija’ - which was so warmly received by all those present.

This event was organised in collaboration with HSBC Malta; PricewaterhouseCoopers Malta; Bank of Valletta plc; Malta Tourism Authority and Air Malta plc.
