Animated Nativity village in Ghajnsielem
The Ghajnsielem Local Council in collaboration with all the main village organizations presents an exciting project which promises to be a unique attraction this Christmas.
The project consists of the building of a Nativity Village in a large piece of land situated just off Ghajnsielem’s main square. The ‘animated crib’ is called ‘Bethlehem f’ Ghajnsielem’ and will offer a naturalistic reproduction of the environ of Bethlehem.
‘Bethlehem f’ Ghajnsielem’ is built in the area known as ‘Ta Passi’ fields, situated between Ghajnsielem’s main square and Mgarr Road. ‘Ta Passi’ stretches over 20,000sqm. Unfortunately the site has been abandoned for several years but thanks to dozens of volunteers, the area has been cleaned and over 400 metres of rubble walls were restored.
The whole project was designed and is being managed by Franco Ciangura.
The animated village includes several attractions including a carpenter, blacksmith, bakery, a market selling natural fruits, fresh fish and vegetables, a tavern, a local crafts area and a stable hosting the animals. The main attraction will be the grotto with Mary, Joseph and baby Jesus.
‘Bethlehem f’ Ghajnsielem’ was inaugurated on Saturday by Hon. Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi.
The Nativity Village will be open all day until Sunday 4th of January. It will be animated with live actors on Saturdays (6th, 13th, 20th, 27th and 3rd) from 1630 to 2100 CET and on Sundays and Public Holidays (7th, 8th, 14th 21st 25th 28th and 4th) from 1330 to 1830 CET.
‘Ghajnsielem f’ Bethlehem’ is situated a short walk away from Mgarr Terminal. Ferry passengers can leave their car in Cirkewwa and visit the Nativity Village on foot. One can easily follow the signs for directions. Parking is also available in the main square.
On entrance, a map will be given to all visitors.
A tavern will offer local food and wine to all visitors.
