Abuse victim gives up on justice against priests
Abuse victim Lawrence Grech told It-Torċa how certain he is that justice with him and other victims will never be made. He stated that there is a fine line between the meetings they had with the Church authorities and the justice expected from the state, justice that is not even in their sight.
Grech stated in an interview with It-Torċa that even though he met with the Pope, Archbishop and the Church authorities, he is still angry at pedophiles. His seven-year long court case seems now a funny joke as he recognises how unjustly the state treats priests.
It-Torċa recounts how the case started back in 2003, when three people contacted the Response Team of the Maltese Curia regarding the abuse, however, following several meetings with the Response Team, it seems as if the team has never concluded the case. Once the victims made the case public, three priests were taken to court, whilst a fourth one ran away to Italy and it stated that he still cannot be found.
Grech told It-Torċa that in time of the accident, he found nobody to help him in the ordeal. Grech recounts how, on the contrary, when he asked a priest for help and told him his story, the priest behaved in the same inappropriate manner as the aggressor.
At the end of the interview, Grech reiterates that he is a 100% sure that his story and justice will fall on deaf ears, and has given up on a fair dealing of the case.
