Changes in laws against child abuse possible
Posted on April 10th, 2010
The government is ready to discuss changes in law regulating child abuse investigations, Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi revealed.
In his comments given to timesofmalta.com, he described child abuse as a criminal act of the highest gravity. He added that to prevent such abuse, any legislation had to strike a balance between society’s duties and the respect towards the victims and their families.
He added that although Malta has good laws, it is also possible that the same laws drafted years ago might not be what the country needs today. He concluded by saying that this can be solved only by having a professional and scientific discussion, changes and improvements that leads Malta to positive conclusions.
