An elderly man was critically injured in a fire at his private residence in Valletta early on Friday morning.

The police reported that the blaze was noticed at around 04:45am inside a private residence in Merchants Street in Valletta. An 85-year-old man suffered serious burns and is in danger of dying.

A 56-year-old woman, who was also in the house, only suffered slight injuries. The house was extensively damaged.
