Air Malta is celebrating an important milestone when, onboard its flight to Brussels KM420, it carried a passenger who bought the one millionth seat from the portal www.airmalta.com.

Little did Ms Fiona Farrugia know that when she booked her Air Malta flight ticket and that of her friend, Ms. Patricia O’Brien, to Brussels on the 11th December of last year, she was booking the one millionth flight ticket booked from the airline’s website.

Upon arriving at the Departures Lounge at Malta International Airport today, Ms Farrugia and Ms O’Brien were greeted by Mr Brian Bartolo, Air Malta’s General Manager Marketing & Product who presented them with a bottle of Champagne and a memento on the occasion. Both passengers were also offered an upgrade to Club Class on their flight to Brussels and two free return tickets each to any Air Malta destination.

Commenting after the presentation Mr Brian Bartolo said, “Air Malta’s aim to continue investing in online services is generating good results. Since the setting up of Air Malta’s new portal and booking engine, more and more customers are now booking their flights through our portal and today 30 percent of the airline’s revenue is generated through online bookings. On this occasion we congratulate and thank Ms Farrugia for this milestone achieved.”

Ms. Fiona Farrugia hails from Zabbar and is a young mother in her mid-thirties. She is also a Critical Care Nurse and together with Ms. Patricia O’Brien, a physiotherapist, is travelling to Brussels to attend the 30th International Symposium on Intensive Care and Emergency Medicine.

Air Malta’s new booking engine was launched in April 2007. Today it offers a variety of services that cater for the airline customers’ individual needs, from special dietary and religious meal requirements to children’s meals, expectant mothers and people with special conditions.

Other services also include web and mobile check-in whereby passengers can choose their seats online, travel insurance, car hire and hotel accommodation abroad. It also gives the facility to manage their booking as well as buying extra baggage allowance at discounted prices.

Air Malta will be rolling out a revamped website which will be launched in the coming weeks. Apart from new features the site will also be available in new languages including Maltese.
