Video: Calends custom still alive
Posted on December 24th, 2009
The belief in Calends (in Maltese, “l-irwiegel’’) is an ancient custom which has remained alive over the years particularly with farmers concerned with the weather and their crops. They match the weather on a particular day with a corresponding month in the coming year.
In Malta, Calends start on December 13th and continue until Christmas Eve. This superstition is found throughout Europe although the starting date varies amongst countries.
