In response to a request by the President of Malta, Dr George Abela, the Maltese Community in Dubai organised a Charity Dinner in aid of the Malta Community Chest Fund. The activity, sponsored by Emirates, was held at the Westin Hotel, Mina al Seyahi in Dubai.

The President of Malta, His Excellency Dr. George Abela addressed those present at the event via a direct link from the Palace in San Anton. The dinner was attended by Malta’s Consul General Anthony Tabone, as well as personalities from the business community and Maltese residents living in Dubai.

Emirates Chief Flying Instructor – Airbus 380, Capt Clifford Chetcuti, from the organising committee of the Maltese Association in Dubai, thanked the Maltese community members and their guests for supporting this event. He emphasized that the Malta Community Chest Fund helps many philanthropic institutions and individuals with different needs in Malta, by raising funds through various activities. The Malta Community Chest Fund is a charitable institution chaired by the President of Malta.

Mr Chetcuti said: “This initiative comes in response to a call made by the President of Malta, HE Dr George Abela, who was recently leading a high level business delegation in Dubai. Proceeds raised from this charity dinner will go towards the Community Chest Fund and the Red Crescent Society. Thank you for supporting this important cause as a number of needy persons in Malta will benefit from this event.”

During the dinner, an auction of artistic works donated by Maltese and Dubai based artists was held to raise further funds. Entertainment was provided by some of Malta’s leading singers and entertainers, namely Ira Losco, Ivan Filletti and Gianni.

The activity raised a handsome sum of €12,500 which will be donated to The Malta Community Chest Fund and to the Red Crescent Society. Apart from Emirates, the Charity Dinner was also supported by Diamond Developers, Fresh Express, Jagged House, Foster Clark’s, Giordano and the Jumeirah Group.
