Video: MaltaMedia Special Christmas Videos
This year the MaltaMedia Online Network has worked hard to bring the best of the traditional Maltese Christmas to its visitors through videos, in collaboration with Favourite Channel. Three videos have been produced, one about the special crib at St. John’s co-cathedral, another dwar l-Irwiegel (Calends) weather forecasts, and another on the L-Istrina national fund-raising activity.
Peter Bezzina explains the tradition, as as some may call it, a superstition of L-Irwiegel or Ghewejjed, mostly believed by farmers who used to give special attention to the weather between 13 and 24 December as this was the ideal period to work out the weather forecast for the coming year.
Fr. Charles Vella shows his magnificent and interesting crib at St John’s Co-Cathedral, Valletta, where pasturi (figurines) are made on real people. It shows strong influences from the Neapolitan crib.

L-Istrina will be held at the Lufthansa Teknik hangar on Saturday 26th December and will be broadcast live on all local TV stations. MaltaMedia.com takes a look at all preparations which started months ago leading up to this year’s event.
These videos were produced by Frederick Zammit for MaltaMedia.com in partnership with Favourite Channel TV.
