Former police constable on drug trafficking charges

29-year-old Jean Pierre Abdilla, a former police constable, is undergoing trial on heroin trafficking charges together with other charges including the possession and sale of protected birds and with trying to bribe a Customs officer.
Mr Abdilla had resigned from the police corps around 1st May 2005 after he had begun to be investigated by the police in March 2005. He is also expected to be charged with committing a crime he was duty bound to prevent as a police officer.
