A man riding his bicycle along the Coast Road at Bahar ic-Caghaq early on Thursday morning was killed in a hit and run accident. It later transpired that the cyclist was well-known for his charity rides and involvement in the sport of cycling.
The police reported that the 45-year-old man from Swieqi was out training on his bike along the Coast Road when he was hit by a car at around 5.15am. He died on the spot. The car involved in the accident was found later. A man is helping the police in their investigations.
The victim was Malta Cycling Federation secretary Clifford Micallef who was also training for the Life Cycle Marathon in aid of the Renal Unit at Mater Dei Hospital, which this year will start on 6th August from Istanbul to Damascus.
